Delete contacts on iPad 📱

iPad shares contacts with iPhone via iCloud. Cleanup on either device propagates to both — but the iPad-specific UI matters when bulk-deleting.

Why iPad contact deletion is awkward

iPad Contacts.app is essentially the same as iPhone Contacts. If iCloud Contacts sync is on, both devices share one address book; cleaning on iPad cleans on iPhone. iPad has a slightly larger screen for multi-select but no native bulk-delete in the app.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

    Confirm iCloud sync is on

iPad Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Contacts. If on, deletions sync to iPhone and Mac automatically.

  2. 2

    Delete individual contacts on iPad

Contacts app → person → Edit → scroll to bottom → Delete Contact.

  3. 3

Bulk delete via Mac or iPhone

iPad's Contacts app doesn't support multi-select. The Mac's Contacts.app does (Shift+click). Or use Delete Contacts on iPhone — changes sync back to iPad via iCloud.

How Delete Contacts helps

Delete Contacts on iPhone gives you the bulk-delete and duplicate-merge tools iPad's Contacts app lacks — and the changes show up on iPad through iCloud sync.

iPad contacts — FAQ

How do I delete contacts only on iPad, not on iPhone?
Only possible if iCloud Contacts sync is off (iPad Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Contacts → Off). When sync is on, both devices share the same address book.
