Why iPhone Phone app contact deletion is awkward
The Phone app shows two contact streams: your saved Contacts (from iOS Contacts) and Recents (every incoming/outgoing call). Cleaning saved contacts is one workflow; clearing Recents is another. Most people want both.
Step-by-step
- 1
Clear all Recents
Phone app → Recents tab → Edit (top right) → Clear → All Recents. This wipes call history but leaves saved Contacts intact.
- 2
Delete individual saved contacts
Phone app → Contacts → swipe left on a contact → Delete. Or tap their name → Edit → scroll to bottom → Delete Contact.
- 3
Bulk-delete saved contacts
Phone's Contacts list doesn't have multi-select. Use Delete Contacts for fast bulk-cleanup via the swipe interface. Changes reflect in the Phone app immediately.
How Delete Contacts helps
The Phone app's Contacts list is the same iOS Contacts that every other app reads. Delete Contacts gives you a bulk-cleanup tool the Phone app itself doesn't provide.
