Why Mailchimp contact deletion is awkward

Mailchimp 'contacts' are your email-marketing audience, not the same as iPhone Contacts. There's no direct sync between Mailchimp and iOS Contacts. Cleanup happens entirely in Mailchimp's web app.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

    Open your Audience

Mailchimp → Audience → All contacts → choose the audience.

  2. 2

    Select contacts to remove

Filter by status (e.g., Unsubscribed, Cleaned), then tick the checkboxes for the contacts to delete. Use Actions → Delete contacts.

  3. 3

    Decide between Archive and Delete

Archive keeps the contact in your audience but stops sending. Delete removes them entirely (you'd need explicit re-consent to re-add per GDPR).

How Delete Contacts helps

Mailchimp lives outside the iPhone Contacts world — but if you also want to tidy your personal iPhone address book (e.g., separating personal contacts from old marketing leads you imported), Delete Contacts handles that side cleanly.

Mailchimp contacts — FAQ

Will deleting a Mailchimp contact remove them from my iPhone?
No — Mailchimp and iPhone Contacts are entirely separate systems. Mailchimp deletions only affect your email-marketing audience.
