Why Salesforce contact deletion is awkward
Salesforce has its own elaborate contact and lead management system, with duplicate-detection rules, merge tools, and bulk actions. If your iPhone syncs Salesforce contacts via the mobile app or a third-party connector, those entries can end up in iOS Contacts too.
Step-by-step
- 1
Find duplicates in Salesforce
Salesforce → Contacts list → use the standard Duplicate Job feature (Setup → Duplicate Management → Duplicate Jobs) to scan for duplicates.
- 2
Merge or delete in Salesforce
From the Duplicate Job results, choose Merge to combine records (keeping the canonical one) or Delete to remove obsolete entries entirely.
- 3
Check iPhone sync state
If you've set up Salesforce contact sync to iPhone, deletions/merges propagate to iOS within minutes. Verify in iPhone Settings → [Salesforce account] → Contacts.
- 4
Clean stragglers on iPhone
Use Delete Contacts on iPhone to tidy any cross-account duplicates that Salesforce can't see (e.g., the same person in iCloud and Salesforce).
How Delete Contacts helps
Salesforce handles the CRM side. Delete Contacts handles the personal-iPhone side. Together they keep both layers — work and personal — clean.
