Why Microsoft Teams contact deletion is awkward

Teams maintains its own contacts list distinct from iPhone Contacts. Speed dial and saved contacts in Teams are managed inside the app; people you've messaged once just sit in chat history. iOS Contacts only syncs with Teams if your Exchange account is set up that way.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

Remove from Teams Calls speed dial

Teams (desktop or mobile) → Calls tab → Speed dial → hover/long-press the contact → Remove from speed dial.

  2. 2

    Clear from Teams contact list

Teams → Calls → Contacts → long-press / right-click → Remove from this list. This doesn't affect your Exchange or iCloud contacts.

  3. 3

Clean the underlying Exchange contacts (if linked)

If your Teams account is tied to Exchange/Outlook with iPhone sync on, deletions on the Outlook side also propagate. Clean Outlook contacts via outlook.live.com or Outlook desktop.

  4. 4

    Clean the iPhone side

iPhone Contacts may have accumulated work entries from old Exchange accounts. Delete Contacts surfaces them as cards — clean in minutes.

How Delete Contacts helps

Once your Teams and Exchange contacts are tidy, the iPhone Contacts app often still carries duplicates and legacy entries from past work setups. Delete Contacts handles those on-device.

FAQ

Microsoft Teams contacts — FAQ

Does deleting a Teams contact remove it from Outlook?
Only if the contact was synced from Outlook to begin with. Speed dial and Teams-only contacts are managed inside Teams and don't touch Outlook. Outlook contacts that you also see in Teams require deletion via the Outlook web/desktop app to propagate.
Can I bulk delete Teams contacts?
Teams doesn't have a bulk-delete in the app itself. The fastest path is to clean the underlying source — Outlook or Exchange contacts via the Outlook web app. For the iPhone side, Delete Contacts handles bulk operations.
